In collaboration with Southwest Airlines, DAL orchestrated a customized experience to support travelers with autism. During this trial visit, a father-son duo embarked on a guided airport experience tailored to the needs of the teenage son, Ari, who is on the autism spectrum.

This immersive experience covered every aspect of air travel, from parking to boarding. Ari and his father engaged in a simulated journey, navigating check-in, TSA screening, exploring airport amenities, and boarding the aircraft. Each step, meticulously planned, gauged Ari's comfort levels and provided him with valuable practice in navigating the airport environment.

Ari's father, mindful of his son's sensitivities to noise and crowds, sought to ensure Ari's ease during the airport journey. Specific concerns, such as using airport facilities, were addressed through a tailored airport tour. The experience also allowed Ari to familiarize himself with potential triggers, enhancing his ability to navigate the environment confidently.

Throughout the simulation, Ari demonstrated resilience and adaptability, showcasing the effectiveness of personalized support in accommodating diverse traveler needs. For DAL, the visit served as a learning opportunity, offering insights into areas for improvement to enhance accessibility and comfort for passengers with disabilities.

Ari and his father traveled from Austin, Texas, to participate in this unique experience, highlighting the importance of inclusive support for travelers of all abilities. DAL extends gratitude to Southwest Airlines for their partnership in facilitating this initiative, emphasizing collaborative efforts toward creating a more welcoming airport environment.

As Autism Awareness Month concludes, DAL reaffirms its commitment to inclusivity, ensuring every traveler feels supported and valued throughout their journey.
