DALLAS – Signaling its commitment to prioritizing passenger accessibility services, Dallas Love Field (DAL) is now the first airport in North Texas to achieve Level 1 status in the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) program, designed and managed by Airports Council International (ACI).
DAL’s award-winning accessibility program was evaluated for its strategy, policies, and initial implementation.
“At Dallas Love Field, our goal is to provide a positive airport experience for every traveler,” Director of Aviation Patrick Carreno noted. “We know flying can be stressful, especially for those with accessibility needs, and our team is committed to creating a welcoming environment where people are supported and valued throughout their entire journey.”
The airport’s accessibility program, strategically developed as an ongoing commitment to ensure continuous improvement, includes but is not limited to:
- AIRA (video remote interpreting) utilization for passengers with vision limitations
- Accessibility awareness training for airport staff
- Special Populations and Accessibility incorporation into the airport’s Facilities Emergency + Evacuation Plan (terminal evacuation plan)
- Uniquely branded sensory gift bags for travelers with hidden disabilities available at the airport’s information booth
“Achieving Level 1 accreditation was no small undertaking. It required ongoing effort and coordination across numerous divisions, and I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork and commitment that made it possible,” Art and Programming Manager Sheena Swehla shared. “Maintaining a safe and positive travel experience for all passengers is part of our culture.”
Along with managing the airport’s public art and performing arts program, the team has initiated, procured, and implemented several DAL accessibility offerings.
The nation’s busiest medium-hub airport is one of only two Texas airports accredited in the AEA program and joins fewer than 10 airports nationwide to achieve this milestone.
