Home MenuVoluntary Noise Program
The Voluntary Noise Program at Dallas Love Field Airport is a collaborative effort between the airport's airlines and operators, the City of Dallas, and the surrounding communities to address noise concerns. This program aims to strike a balance between the operational needs of the airport and the quality of life in nearby neighborhoods. The program is sanctioned by the FAA and includes elements enacted into law by Congress, ensuring that local noise abatement ordinances are approved by the FAA before they are enacted. This voluntary nature of the program allows for public involvement and the development of solutions collectively.
Key elements of the program
Nighttime Preferential Runway: All jet aircraft are preferred to operate on Runway 13R/31L at night.
Engine Maintenance Run-ups: Prohibition on aircraft engine maintenance run-ups between midnight and 6:00 a.m., expanded to a voluntary moratorium between 10:00 p.m. and midnight.
Optimal Take-off Profile: Airlines are committed to using their optimal take-off profile.
Community Engagement: Regular reviews of the noise program, public outreach, and community feedback are conducted to ensure the program remains effective and responsive to the needs of the community.
