The Program at a Glance

An airport experience planned around the journey.

Dallas Love Field is already operating at capacity, and the number of departing passengers is expected to grow from 8.7 million annually to 11.9 million by 2045. LEAP will modernize the airport's facilities and infrastructure to better accommodate today's passenger volume and prepare DAL for future demand while maintaining its welcoming atmosphere and easy-to-navigate, one-terminal layout.

Easier arrivals

Dual-level curbside access, additional parking in Garage D, and a future consolidated rental car facility will make drop-offs, pick-ups, parking, and rental car returns easier.

Smoother check-in

A new, expanded ticketing area, modern self-service options, and reconfigured security checkpoints will improve passenger flow during busy travel periods.

More comfort

Wider walkways, renovated gate areas, more seating with power access, and updated dining and shopping options will make time spent beyond security more comfortable and convenient.

Roomier baggage claim

An expanded baggage claim area is designed to provide more room and improve passenger flow at the end of each trip.

01What does LEAP stand for?

LEAP is the Love Field Expansion Airport Program — the capital-improvement and modernization initiative for Dallas Love Field (DAL). It's the public face of DAL's investment in a future-ready airport.

02Why is this work happening now?

Dallas Love Field is already operating at capacity, passenger demand is expected to continue growing, and key facilities are nearing the end of their useful life. LEAP will address these needs by modernizing DAL to strengthen safety and operational efficiency and create a better customer experience over the long term.

03Will the airport stay open during construction?

Yes. Work is carefully phased so DAL remains open and operating throughout. Some areas, roadways, and parking may be temporarily rerouted, and we'll share advance notice of any changes that affect your trip.

04How will construction affect my travel or parking?

You may notice detours near the terminal, shifted curbside pickup and drop-off, and temporary parking changes. We recommend arriving a little earlier during active phases and checking updates before you travel.

05When will the program be complete?

LEAP is delivered in phases, with major improvements continuing through 2032. Individual projects open as they finish, so travelers will see benefits along the way rather than waiting for a single completion date.

06Who is leading and funding the program?

LEAP is led by the City of Dallas Department of Aviation and delivered with a team of design, construction, and community partners. It is funded through a combination of airport revenues and program-specific financing — not local property taxes.

07What improvements will travelers actually see?

Expect refreshed and expanded terminal spaces, smarter wayfinding, upgraded technology and infrastructure, improved roadways and parking, and a smoother end-to-end journey from curb to gate.

08How does LEAP affect nearby neighborhoods?

We're committed to being a good neighbor. That means managing construction noise, traffic, and hours responsibly, and keeping residents informed through community meetings and regular updates.
